Spain Entrepreneur Visa: Investment and Financial Requirements

Spain entrepreneur visa financial requirements involve more than the amount you plan to invest. Your business needs funding, while you and your family need resources to live in Spain. Before committing savings or arranging your move, it is worth assessing both needs together.

At Pérez Parras Economists & Lawyers, we bring together immigration, business analysis and international tax advice. Our Spain entrepreneur visa and residence service helps you assess the whole picture before preparing your application.

Is there a minimum investment for the Spain entrepreneur visa?

Law 14/2013 does not set a single minimum investment amount for this residence route. However, that does not mean any budget will be adequate. Nor does a large investment guarantee approval.

Article 70.2(b) of Law 14/2013 of 27 September includes the required investment and potential funding sources among the factors used to assess the project. The financial basis must therefore fit the business you intend to develop.

A business with premises, staff and its own product development may need a different budget from one with a different operating model. The useful question is not simply how much money you have. It is also whether the proposed funding supports the project.

Financial requirements: investment, funding and family resources

Three separate parts of your financial planning
Concept What it means
Business investment The resources the business needs to launch and develop its activity.
Funding The financial support intended to meet those needs, including its terms and availability.
Personal and family resources The resources available to support you and your family during your residence in Spain.

This distinction helps avoid counting the same sum as fully available for two purposes at once. In our professional assessment, the plan should make clear which commitments each source of funds will cover.

Personal financial requirements when moving with your family

Article 62.3(f) requires sufficient resources for the applicant and family members during their residence in Spain. Business funding does not, by itself, replace the resources needed to support your household.

The assessment changes depending on whether you move alone, with a partner or with children. We also consider who holds the funds and whether existing commitments limit their use. For that reason, we need to understand your family circumstances before giving a case-specific figure.

Any financial benchmark must be checked against the administrative criteria applicable when you apply. Figures published for non-lucrative residence, international remote work or another immigration route should not be carried across without checking. Otherwise, a calculation for the wrong route may lead to the wrong conclusion.

We assess the adequacy and consistency of your financial position alongside your Spain entrepreneur residence documents. The aim is to present your actual circumstances clearly.

Business planning and financial requirements for entrepreneur residence in Spain
Your business and family move need a consistent financial plan.

Financial resources: wealth is not the same as available funds

For example, a property, shares in a company and an available bank balance have different features. Each may form part of your wealth. However, they do not necessarily give you the same ability to meet business costs or household expenses.

Where funds come from abroad, we also review ownership, availability and the supporting records. Loans, partners’ contributions and pending funding require attention to their terms. We do not assume that money is available while it still depends on a third party’s decision.

As a result, there is no identical documentary solution for every founder. Total wealth and funds you can actually use are not automatically equivalent.

Does investing more automatically improve the outcome?

No. Investment does not replace the need for the business to fit this residence route. The activity’s innovative nature and/or special economic interest for Spain must be assessed within the relevant procedure. Simply forming a company or contributing capital is not enough.

We therefore link the financial review to the ENISA report for entrepreneur residence and the founder’s role. Where needed, we offer business plan preparation or professional review, with a scope tailored to the project’s current stage.

The firm’s legal and economic perspective also benefits from Sergio’s training as a telecommunications engineer. This helps us understand technical projects and connect relevant business questions with the immigration assessment.

Financial requirements and tax planning before your move

Moving to Spain may affect the taxation of your income and your reporting duties. For that reason, we recommend reviewing the timing before taking major financial steps. Entrepreneur residence and the Beckham Law require separate, coordinated analysis. A residence permit does not automatically grant the tax regime.

Your starting point also matters. You may be preparing the application abroad or already be in Spain. Our article on applying from Spain or from abroad explains why that choice should be reviewed before your move.

Frequently asked questions about investment and financial requirements

Can a particular investment amount guarantee residence?

No. The outcome depends on the full set of requirements and the assessment of the project. Therefore, the budget must be reviewed in that context.

Can a partner provide funding?

Funding can take different forms. We review each founder’s role, the terms of the financial support and its link to the project. A contribution should not be assumed to meet every requirement.

Do the personal financial requirements include my children?

The legal requirement covers the applicant and accompanying family members. As a result, the assessment must reflect your actual family group and the criteria applicable to the case.

Can you review a business plan I already have?

Yes. We can assess your existing material and identify the legal and economic review it needs. However, we must examine it before deciding whether it is suitable.

Legal and economic advice for your move to Spain

From Málaga and Nerja, we advise founders planning to establish themselves in Spain, including those preparing their move from abroad. We coordinate the project, financial resources and family circumstances within the agreed service.

For an initial assessment, tell us about your activity, the project’s stage, your country of residence and the family members who intend to join you. We can then define the initial information needed and propose a scope of work suited to your circumstances.
