The Income Tax Return 2017 Campaign has begun, so from 4 April to 30 June, we must submit our Income Tax Return to the Treasury Department.

As we already explained in our 2016 Income Tax Return post, this year Pérez Parras Economists & Lawyers Firm wants to detail the main novelties in this year’s income tax return 2017 statement.

The first and most significant one is that the Tax Agency has made available to taxpayers a new “App” to prepare their Income Tax Return 2017.

That application allows taxpayers to:

  • make an appointment to be served at the offices of the Tax Agency, or
  • consult their fiscal data, and
  • submit their Income Tax Return 2017 statement in a single click.

These functionalities are the extension of the application that last year was only a pilot test.

Another main novelty is that, this year, SMS with the reference number disappears. On the other hand, that reference number can now be received through different ways:

  •  the mobile app, or
  • from the website of the Tax Agency,
  • as well as with the draft received by postal mail.

If you choose to access the website of the Tax Agency to get your reference code, you should know that, as a novelty, in addition to the information requested in previous years, this present year you must also give of the expiration date of your identity card.

Tax Agency Tools:

In addition, the Tax Agency wants to promote telephone support. For this reason, they have launched a tool called “we phone you” (te llamamos, in Spanish). Through that service, the Tax Agency will contact taxpayers on the date and time requested.

Another important fact is that the Tax Agency will inform taxpayers affected by “ground clause” and bonds of Popular Bank.

Especially relevant is the fact that, since last year, the Tax Agency “notifies”  taxpayers who get income from holiday rentals that they have a proof of it.

The Tax Agency informed holiday rentals websites (Booking.com, Airbnb, TripAdvisor) to report quarterly the informative statement. This is as of July 2018.  They carry it out using model 179, for all holiday rentals that they commercialise. All those taxpayers that haven’t submitted their holiday rental income so far will be obliged to do so in 2017.
